When your merchant account was established, you were most likely set up to accept Visa and Master Card. To accept American Express, you must complete a separate application. Check with your Merchant Account representative for details. You can also request an application packet directly from American Express by calling their toll free number: 1-800-528-5200

When you do get your American Express number, you need to contact your merchant bank and request that they activate your account to accept American Express (this is not automatic). It is also very important that you test your account for accepting American Express by using your eTerminal. If you get a declined message with "Inv Merch#", you need to contact your merchant bank and have them activate your account for Amex. We have nothing to do with this activation.
